Considering Spinal Manipulation (Adjustment)

Over the years, chiropractic has taken a lot of flack from other medical professions, but now, chiropractors and family doctors work hand and hand. Both know the value of each others medical art, and you reap the benefits. If you are experiencing back pain, come in for an adjustment.

There are a variety of treatments available at the chiropractors. They include ultrasound, EMS treatments, physical therapy, massage, and state-of-the-art spinal decompression. Oh, yes, and of course, traditional chiropractic adjustments. The question is, what kind of injury do you have, and what is the best treatment for you. You may or may not need a spinal adjustment today, you may need decompression, massage, or a combination of all of these.

This page was posted to explain all about chiropractic adjustments, or "manipulation. There are a lot of technical terms, and weird machines that do all kinds of things, so we wanted to take a moment to explain to you each topic in easy to understand language.

Simply put, a spinal manipulation or "adjustment" restores mobility and flexibility to the joints by disrupting scar tissue. Getting an adjustment does not hurt, it releaves tension and helps stop pain.

Chiropractic treatment of the spine is a time-honored and safe method of restoring proper motion to the spine. Chiropractic is not a new medical discovery, however, there have been some remarkable advances to chiropractic in just the last few years, namely the creation of spinal decompression therapy.

Our spines are highly complex structures. Each spinal column has five parts. The cervical at the top, followed by the thoracic, which protects your organs, the lumbar of your lower back, your sacrum at the base, followed by a tiny group of bones called the tailbone. Each of these vertebrae are connected by hundreds of small ligaments, muscle fibers and tendons.

When your spine is not moving properly, you feel stiff (or old). Abnormal motion will cause swelling that may “squeeze” one of the nerves that run through your spine. You may perceive the pressure as pain, numbness, or it could feel like lightning. Sciatic pain can bring even the biggest guy on the Wolf Pack down to his knees. Pills cannot help that pain. That's when you need an adjustment, or "manipulation."

Chiropractic manipulation is the best cure for a misaligned spine. We understand you want the pain to go away right now, and we do everything we can to make that happen. Sometimes the treatments we offer take the pain away immediately, sometimes, it takes a few visits. In the mean time, we can help ease your pain with EMS, which is electronic muscle stimulation, physical therapy, and massage.

Imagine you, living a life without pain, without having to take pill after pill. Chiropractic manipulation can do that for you.

At Integrated Spinal Solutions, our Doctors of Chiropractic have spent years learning how to functionally assess and manipulate the spine. We use both traditional chiropractic techniques, spinal decompression, and other modern medical treatments for back or neck pain.

If your neck is "out", your chiropractor will examine you starting at your occiput, which is your skull, and then travel down the cervical spine with their fingers. If you can't tilt or turn your head/neck without a "kink" then your chiropractor knows that one of the joints in your neck is not moving properly. Understanding the biomechanics of the spine allows us to pinpoint which joint is restricted and “manipulate” it into moving properly again. Total time is about a 30 minutes from initial exam to relief.
